Moody blues.

These watercolor blues and greens seem just right for sunny/stormy April. Flower and leaf dress embellishment and sash for Sarah.

Don't call it gray.

You may know that grey (I just really have to spell it that way--so much prettier!) is my favorite color, so I'm happy Shontee let me talk her into this lovely silvery bolero to go over her wedding dress. Embellishments are silk organza flowers, hand dyed bits of lace and embroidery, and vintage pearls and jewels.

Handmade Weddings: Make a Statement

Sometimes you just want your guests to say, wow. (It’s okay to admit it!) For those wow moments handmade wedding designs and accessories can be at the center.

Here are some design ideas from the Etsy Wedding Team to add more star power to your wedding.
Go Bigger. Yes, sometimes bigger is better when you want to make a statement. You can do this by adding more of an item to a tablescape, for example, or actually making your accessory bigger, longer, etc. {handmade by www.heknowsmyname.etsy.com}

Go Shinny. Especially when the accessory is not typically metallic, shinny or sleek, adding that texture will really make it stand out from others. {handmade by www.ruffhouseart.etsy.com}

Go Unexpected. Do you need really to wear gloves in spring? No, but don’t they look awesome? Adding unusual accessories or unusual style will definitely spark conversations at your reception. {handmade by www.Countessa.etsy.com}

Go What? Surprise your guests, literally. One-of-a-kind handmade pieces can be show stoppers, and make your wedding style more memorable. {handmade by www.hairbowswonderworld.etsy.com}

Go Detailed. Adding that extra detail where not expected (like your feet!) can really underscore how much thought you’ve put into your wedding design. {handmade by www.FeathersandFrills.etsy.com}

hats: not just for snowstorms.

hats
Anyone out there planning an outdoor fall wedding? Wouldn't that white hat, (maybe with a small blusher) be perfect? I just loved the other hat too much not to post it, both from Yellowfield. Contemplating wearing more hats...

time to get serious

rosebelt
Last night I had a "time-to-get-serious-about-getting-in-shape" moment as I realized that my baby is now 5 months old (!), and I have not broken a sweat since his delivery (!!). I want to get back into the swing of exercising, but I get bored so easily with treadmills and ellipticals (yawn). Any suggestions? I live in Rhode Island, so exercising outdoors is not always an option (at least not for me). Do I have to join a gym to do this right? Anyone?
In the mean time, I will dream of belts to accent my future sculpted self. From Percy Handmade.

all that glitters

glitters
I have always loved the notion of choosing one beautiful, thoughtful accessory to make a nice outfit (maybe even an unremarkable one) unforgettable. With a short, white, satin, cinched-at-the-waist dress, the sequined rose would be perfect. The top headband could complete a slender, drapey, grecian number like they were never meant to be apart.
This has me wondering... Did any of you choose your gown based on an amazing accessory? Or does the dress always come first?
Both of the above are from Bethany Lorelle.

leather blossoms

eightseasons
It's rare to find nice leather goods in white, unless you pay about 1 million dollars for a designer stuff. I love these two clutches from Eight Seasons, (all the way from Estonia!) especially the White Sea of Blossoms - love it!

feeling ethereal this morning

glamourjunkie2
I posted a while back about Louise Broad and her amazing line of ethereal shrugs, vests and hair accessories, but I wanted to post a few newer ones because they are just fantastic and you can never have too many shrugs to choose from! I keep picturing the one up top with a glamorous up-do and a slinky, bias-cut mermaid style gown - a la 1938-ish.

#675: my hair. and the piece.

i never had a hair trial and so i never knew what my hair was actually going to look like on the day of our wedding. it's probably because i knew i was going to be doing my own hair and makeup and could never be bothered to do a hair trial...for myself. dunno why. maybe, something to do with like laziness or something?

sans a hair trial, i carried a color copy of my inspiration to the bathroom on the morning of and...just wung it.

first, i blow-dried my hair and set in the same curlers i've been using since 10th grade.

then, while the curlers were doing their thing, i did my own makeup. complete with lovely fake eyelashes. they were looooooooooooooong and lovely and made me feel a little crazy and slightly glamorous.

and THEN, when the curlers cooled, i took 'em out and threw a million bobby pins at my sister who then pinned and pinned. whilst she pinned, i stared. at the gigantic fake eyelashes that were glued yay close to my eyes.

and then we all had a joyous hairspraying party to ensure my hairs wouldn't become loose.

and of course. the headpiece. well, you all know the story behind that.

i don't have any professional pictures of myself getting ready but here are some pics of the result. none from the front -- because i'm shy.

there's really no lesson here. just pretty pictures. but if anything, i hope this inspires those of you who are getting your hair and makeup done only because you think you HAVE to as opposed to NEEDING to. to give it a second thought.

for me, DIY was 110% the right decision.

Bridal Accoutrements Etc.

Before the photographer arrived I tried to get out some of the final little details that I would like captured on film. My worry was that it was going to look too contrived. I can appreciate why many Brides like seemingly staged accessory pics, but I was trying to avoid "posing" my own accessories as much as possible.

The following pic is somewhat posed though ;p…I did place my little purse (that my Aunt/Godmother) made for me as well as my garter.

It just so happened that I placed them on top of my "wedding file". I had been working on the file for the last two years. At one point it was bulging with ideas/clippings/notes etc…but once the wedding day came I only required:
-Day Of Itinerary
-MC Itinerary
-Vendor Contacts
-Hotel Reservation
-Honeymoon/Flight Information

I think it is appropriate that I have a picture of it…the wedding evolved out of that simple purple folder ;)

I'm a little surprised that I'm posting the following toe pic…as I'm not a big fan of my toes or toes in general! But, I received a handful of them…so I thought I'd post what I deem is the "cutest toe pic"…lol. One of the things that got left off of the "to do list" and out of the budget was a pedicure. I *heart pedicures…but I ended up running out of time…and running out of budget - it is just one of those things that I didn't place as a top priority. I would have loved to have my toesies pampered - especially for pics like this…it is another one of those "oh wells":

Brides can have as many accoutrements or a little as they like. I like to think I fell somewhere in the middle. I did have a veil (see veil post ;), but no tiara. In place of a tiara, I had a small hair comb to add a little je ne say quoi to my hairdo when my veil came off (which was immediately after pictures).

I also had my lovely little purse that my Aunt Mary crochet for me:

As well as my DIY garter (I just had one to toss… My hubby did end up taking off the "Harris" pin as he wanted to keep it. But I have no idea where it is :(

And of course my bouquet:

And although not really an accessory, I had my "Day Of" itinerary on me as well:

I even have a picture of my sister/MOH getting good use out of it ;)

Finally I wore the pearl and diamond earring that hubby gave me for Christmas the year we got engaged and the pearl necklace he gave me as a wedding gift:

I don't have the most charismatic movements…so I don't have any of those gorgeous pics of me putting on my shoes - you know the ones I'm talking about - where the Bride elegantly leans down to put her shoes on? Or pokes her toes out from beneath her dress for one of her bridesmaids to put her shoes on… I do have this pic:

don't forget the foot petals!:

My shoes were so badly ruined they were thrown in the garbage at a gas station on the way to the airport the night of our wedding/morning after our wedding.
